Establish Yorktown Road as a Heritage Road

Present-day Yorktown Road exists as a timeline, marking the course of history over the road’s lifetime of existence. Structures along its length have come and gone, but the road has remained relatively unchanged for over 100 years. As such, Yorktown Road is a relic of history that should be preserved. Through design, policy and management, the road should be treated with the level of respect and care ascribed to any other cultural resource. The Rural Heritage Program of The National Trust for Historic Preservation has been in the forefront of the movement to recognize and preserve the nation’s heritage roadways. With their guidance, Yorktown Road can become one as well.
